SCHOOL OF MUSIC - YOUR SONG LIFE MATTERS, DONT KILL IT

Dear Emerging Artistes,    Do you know that recording a song and keeping it only on your phone without promoting or having it on just one blog with 2 and half followers just so you get a link is an abuse of your song?  Your songs lives matter!! I said the life of your song matter!! Don't kill your song. I know this is common with a lot of gospel artistes and there are two basic reasons for this. The first reason is that most of you don't plan your promotion before you start recording or at least put it in mind while recording. The second reason is that most of you don't honestly know what to do and how to go about it and you are not even willing to pay for the knowledge so that someone who knows how this things work can show you the way. I hope you know that ignorance is a greater darkness sha.. A lot of artistes don't even know the power blog premiering of songs hold. Unfortunately many didn't actually get much value from the blogs they used to premiere their songs...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC - THE STRUGGLE FOR RELEVANCE AFTER BLOWING

SCHOOL OF MUSIC ::: THE STRUGGLE FOR RELEVANCE AFTER BLOWING Recently I have been thinking a lot about some artistes who dropped Hits back then and went extinct. Truth is that they are actually active in music but you don't get to hear them because they have no more hits. Yes many of them are releasing and promoting their songs ooooo but for where? You don't get to hear them because the songs are not blowing again. To figure out how to address the matter, we have to first know what their problem really is. The real problem is that these guys blow by accident. Accident is never an organized structure to replicate. If you blow by accident and be thinking it is grace, you will struggle for years to make another hit until you go extinct. Hit songs are created intentionally and if you don't know how this works, you are in for struggle. When Psquare broke up, I told people that Paul Rudeboy will be more relevant in music than Peter P Classic. I got to know that Rudeboy was respon...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC - PROMOTION WILL NOT BLOW YOU

SCHOOL OF MUSIC:: PROMOTION WILL NOT BLOW YOU EITHER Few months ago I made a statement that seemed rather controversial just like the headline on this post. I said if your song needed money to blow, then it was never a hit song in the first place. A lot of people couldn't take that in and I got a lot of messages inbox to explain what I mean. It is simple, a song blows because it is a hit not because you promote well enough. The essence of promotion is not to blow a song, it is to get the song to people for it to be known. You promote so that the world will know your song, knowing your song doesn't mean the song will blow.  For a song to blow, it must be loved by many, it is the love for the song that keeps the sound in the air for a long time, not your promotion. Please read that again slowly. Understand that the purpose for promotion is for the product to be known. Whether it is liked, loved or discarded depends on the product. Some may say the package but that is only but a s...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC:: AUDIENCE REACTION vs RESPONSE

SCHOOL OF MUSIC ::: AUDIENCE REACTION vs RESPONSE. I happen to get a lot of new songs sent to me for reviews by virtue of the fact that I am a music coach and a media personality, oftentimes, these artists seek my professional opinion on which song to promote. As you already know, I am a preacher of quality music promotion, and so I would always ask them this very important question which I am also asking you now. When people hear your song, do they just REACT to it or do they RESPOND to it? Do they just say "oh nice song", " nice voice", "nice production" or do they ask you "how can I get this song"? Do they beg you to send them the song, do they love the song so much so that they are willing to pay to get the song? Do they own  the song after listening to it? These are very important factors you need to pay attention to before putting money into promoting a song that won't add any value to you. If people who hear your songs only react to it...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC - THE BURDEN OF CREATIVITY

SCHOOL OF MUSIC:: THE BURDEN OF CREATIVITY I struggled with the idea of this article for some days now for fear of being misunderstood, but I sincerely hope that you get the message I am trying to get across to you. Creative people are hardly satisfied with their work and most times, they do a lot to please themselves. In doing that, they often overdo things lol. I know this!  In music it is no different, most creative artistes wants to "express" themselves in their songs and there's nothing really wrong with expressing yourselves except that it tends to put the focus more on you than your audience. I have always said to my students that your music is not for you and it is not about you. Your music can be a blessing to you, no doubt, but it is not primarily for you. If you understand this, then you must always keep your audience in focus while writing, arranging or recording the song. This is a key factor. Some of you want to express yourselves so badly that you put every...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC - WHY HIT SONGS?

SCHOOL OF MUSIC::: WHY HIT SONG? Mention one Hit song that is not loved by everyone, None right? Yes you got it,  Mention one Hit song that is not a great blessing, None right? That's right Mention one Hit song that lacks annointing, None right? Good student! Mention one Hit song that's not Viral, None right? Good. NOW Don't you desire to have a song or songs that's loved by everyone or almost everyone? Don't you desire to be a great BLESSING to everyone with your songs?  Don't you want to give the world Annointed songs? Don't you want your songs to go viral so more people can hear your message? I am sensing your answer is YES, then HIT song is a must for you. Desire it, dream it, speak it, pray it, work it. Every artiste needs Hit songs to gain influence. Influence is very important for what ever audience you think you are called to minister to. No matter how small they are. Some of you have been brainwashed to think that when you don't desire global st...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC - DEAR GLOBAL MUSIC BRAND

I honestly do not expect any reaction on this post because this post is only for select few. It is addressed to only Global music brands. Only those thinking this way should take this post seriously. If you are not an artiste with the mindset for Global influence, kindly stop reading at this point. Most times when I read the Bible, I notice certain instructions are given to kings, if I see a post on social media with "Dear Kings", I will stop and read because I know the instructions are for me. Even though sometimes the content don't really speak to kings. Listen, just like there are things that are not expected of kings, in the same way, there are things that are not expected of a Global music brands or someone working towards becoming one.  If it were in the Bible days now I would have started this post with " my son, incline thine ear to my sayings and your mind to it's understanding" lol LISTEN!!! Avoid getting involved in useless arguments on social med...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC - SIMPLE IS INFLUENCE

SCHOOL OF MUSIC::: SIMPLE IS INFLUENCE There's an interesting story about a man called Naaman, he had leprosy and had spent so much money but couldn't get healing. One day his maid told him about Prohpet Elisha and he decided to try Elisha out. His king sent a letter to the King of Israel that the man was coming to be cured of his disease and when the King of Israel read the letter, he was angry and tore his clothes. Then Elisha heard the news and asked that Naaman be brought to him now so that he would know that there's a prophet in Israel. Wow! He didn't say the man will know there's a God in Israel but Prophet in Israel. That's pride abi? Lol calm down and follow me. Naaman finally arrived Elisha's house and Elisha sent his servent to go meet the man at the door and tell him to go wash in river Jordan 7 times and be healed. Now this is another pride here. How come Elisha refused to come out to see someone who traveled all the way from a far country to see...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC - MENTOR'S HEART

SCHOOL OF MUSIC::: MENTOR'S HEART I have shared a few thoughts on mentorship on this space before and I am sure by now you already know the importance of having a mentor; an accessible mentor. If you don't have one please prayerfully find one for yourself. This article is meant to share a few thoughts on how to maximize and make benefit of your mentorship season. I carefully used the word "Benefit" because that's the most important thing about having a mentor. It should benefit you or should I say profit you. However this in itself is a problem. Most mentees go into MENTORSHIP relationship with focus on what they will benefit. They are in that mentorship relationship for what they can gain, take and benefit from to grow their career/ministry. Please listen to this, don't go into a mentorship relationship with the BENEFIT mindset. I know you want to learn, you want to grow, you want to ride on the shoulder of your mentors to maximize great platforms. All that i...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC - UNDERSTANDING MUSICAL SOUND ENERGY

SCHOOL OF MUSIC ::: SOUND ENERGY AND MUSIC. A few years ago, I had a guest on my radio show who just released a song and needed Promotion. During the interview she spoke passionately about her vision for Nigeria and how God had sent her to preach peace through music to Nigeria and bring restoration to Nigeria. Wow! Was I impressed? Oh yes, you guessed right. However after I played the song she did for Nigeria on my show that day,  I was totally disappointed and I told her that with this her song like this, Nigeria will never know peace let alone restoration. The song totally lacks ENERGY. NO LIFE IN IT. if you want to bring peace and restore Nigeria with a song, the song must definitely have plenty life in it. Song must be alive first actually. A dead song can't restore or revive anything. You are talking Nigeria ooo. Lol Now listen to this.. ENERGY is one of the most important factors to how well your song is loved and received. I guess you probably never thought of this or heard ...

SCHOOL OF MUSIC - ESTABLISH A CONNECTION FIRST BEFORE MESSAGE

SCHOOL OF MUSIC:::: ESTABLISH A CONNECTION FIRST BEFORE MESSAGE. Many years ago Psquare released a song I think the title was "ASAMKPOKOTO" not quite sure. From the first time I heard the song, I fell deeply in love with the song lol. Anywhere I heard the song playing, I will stop and listen while singing to it as well. Oh how I loved this song!  Then one day I was invited to MC an event in Lagos. It wasn't long before the DJ started playing the song. Damn! The joy in my heart erhn. I started singing the song so passionately like I was Paul of Psquare. Then as we got to the 2nd solo, something hit me. Wait a minute! You mean I have been cursing myself since and didn't even know? The solo says.. see me I dey craze, e be like say I dey mad ooo, asamkpoto baby no be so, see my head dey pain me, life looking lonely, Etc can't even remember it all. Terrible lyrics that are full of curses. There's even a part of the chorus that says "I'm going insane"....
