SCHOOL OF MUSIC :: YOUR FIGHT IS DIFFERENT
SCHOOL OF MUSIC:: YOUR FIGHT IS DIFFERENT.
Thinking of the best caption for this post, I remember the very words of John Obidi "Your fight is different". This expression could mean different things for different people but basically, it means that we all have our own demons to conquer.
Recently I read a post that talks about how some pastors and artistes spend 20-50 years to get to where they are today and gain influence. The post also explained how some artistes spent years in obscurity before they gain influence and become known, that some artistes gained influence after 3rd or 4th album.
I want to sincerely believe that the intent of the writing is to motivate and encourage patience which I think is fine but there's a bigger problem with this kind of reference. This kind of mentality can kill drive and destroy zeal for influence. When you are putting in your best to gain influence and you read a post that says so and so artistes spent 20 years before they blow, you might start feeling like you are in a hurry or that you are doing something wrong for pushing yourself and your career so hard.
Everybody will not follow the same route to influence. All artiste don't have the same beginning, all artistes don't have same vision, dreams, goals, resource, etc
Your own fight is different. The word FIGHT in this context is symbolic of journey, vision, purpose etc. Understand that your own journey is different, you are not on the same journey with anyone and you don't need anyone's results for your own journey.
Whether someone else failed or succeeded at their own journey has little or nothing to do with your own journey. The number of years someone else spent on their own journey has nothing to do with you and your own journey. Understand that your FIGHT is different. Your own journey is different.
That some big artistes today blow after 5 albums doesn't mean that is now the standard, it could be proof that they followed the wrong route. You dont have to blow after 5 albums sir. Your first single can be a HIT. Yes! This is very very possible.
Listen to me, I know people always say you must SERVE before you grow into influence, but where is the number of years to serve before gaining influence stated? I know that one must go through process of growth before gaining influence but again, what is the constituted number of years required for the process of growth?
Process is not in the length of years neither is service in length of years, no, they are measured in the quality of knowledge gained. You could be in a wilderness forever and have nothing to show for it. You can serve for 20 years and still be irrelevant. It is never about the length of time, number of years. It is about the value you got from the process or service.
When they say to you that it took Minister Abel or Minstrel Cain 30 years to blow after 25 albums, understand this, that the opportunities and platforms available to you today was not available for Abel and Cain 30 years ago. The wealth of resources available for you today was not available 30 years ago.
Ask yourself, how many radio and TV stations were there 30 years ago, even 10 years ago? In fact, a few years back, one of the major problems artistes have was that Nigerian Radio and TV stations were not playing Nigerian songs, only foreign songs. This was a problem for the growth of artists years back but it is not the same case now. Today we are blessed with more radio and TV stations than you can imagine and the wonderful gift of the internet for our visibility. How can you now want to draw motivation from someone who spent years on his or her journey as a standard.
Your fight is different, your time is different, your goal is different. You dont need albums to blow. Your very first song can blow you. Several secular artistes did it, you can do it. Don't let anyone abuse your mind and get you thinking that you need to labour for years before you gain influence. I said no, you don't have to.
Get knowledge fast and get your content right, anything can happen in your career, don't hold back, don't think you are in a hurry to gain influence, you are doing what you should. This is your fight and it is not only different but it is personal. Run your race and win the crown.
