SCHOOL OF MUSIC - POOR OR BAD BRANDING

SCHOOL OF MUSIC ::: POOR OR BAD BRANDING.

I have written a lot about Artiste's branding in my previous articles even though I haven't posted any article specifically on Branding yet. This is because I am reserving the knowledge for my students at the SCHOOL OF MUSIC COACHING AND MENTORSHIP PROGRAM starting in March this year.

Branding is a very very serious factor not just in helping an artiste blow and gain Influence but also in sustaining the Influence. Many Artistes especially in the secular music industry are struggling today because of poor branding. In gospel music, many of the gospel Artistes have no single idea what branding is and they are even fighting the only few Gospel Artistes who are working hard to build a brand for themselves.

I can tell you categorically that without branding, an artiste may not be able to blow and gain Influence and even if they stumbled on a hit song, in a short while, they will be forgotten. No "branding" means no "Existence" (Presence). This is how serious branding is.

Now as regards branding, we have strong brands, weak brands and poor brands. In this post, I am addressing POOR BRANDING. This is very common with gospel Artistes and I know why. There are many reasons why poor branding is common with gospel artiste and one of it is ignorance and another is religion which is often fueled by ignorance too.

I know someone of you are not even catching what I am saying yet so let me come down and explain in simple terms. The reason I decided to write this article is because of a trend I saw recently on social media. I saw some event flyers where a particular artiste's name and picture is on the flyer and they will now write the Artiste song under their names.. lol. I believe some of you have seen this. Do you know why they do that? Because they know that the name is not strong enough to carry the brand but this is poor branding. It is an error.

How can you have hit songs as an artiste and your name is not known? Your name is supposed to bring your song to people's mind just as your song brings your name to people's heart too. But once there's a disconnect, then you have poorly branded yourself or you don't even have a brand at all.

Your song is not supposed to be popular on it's own. I always advised my Artistes to not let their songs be more popular than them.  You are supposed to brand yourself with your song. This is very important. Most Artistes that there songs are more popular than them, struggle as though they never had hit songs. Most of them end up not making money from their Hit while some marketers somewhere are building houses with their song.

If I asked you the name of the artiste who sang "Parte after Parte" you will have to Google it to know, what about "One Corner"? You will also have to Google too. Those are examples of poor BRANDING.

In this gospel music, there some hit songs that you have to Google to know the Artistes. This is poor BRANDING. You may not know it but it has serious implications on you and your career. One of the negative implications is that people will make money off your songs while you are struggling. People can also steal the song and build Influence while you are in the dark. For instance, the song "You are the reason" was originally written and recorded by CHRIS SHALOM, as powerful as the song was, his branding was poor. Then Mairo Ese heard the song and remixed it and blow with it. Today many people don't even know that the song was Chris shalom's song. Mairo got all the influence from the song.

I know a gospel Artiste who had almost 10 hits years back who later couldn't feed because he didn't make money from his songs as a result of poor BRANDING.

If poor BRANDING is this serious, think about lack of BRANDING for your career, that's a disaster. I will be teaching ARTISTES BRANDING as a course in my Class so sign up now.
