SCHOOL OF MUSIC - #1 ERROR FOR CREATING HIT SONGS
SCHOOL OF MUSIC:: #1 ERROR FOR CREATING HIT SONGS
Last week, I had a combined class for two of my clients who are Gospel Artistes and at the end of the class, I asked them to write a HIT song right there and submit. I had taught them how to create hit songs Intentionally so I expected them to produce something to show they understood what I taught them. Now before you argue that hit songs can not just be written at a spot or that you need annointing to write hit songs, may I announce to you that you are so wrong? And such mentality might even be the reason you couldn't create any Hit song yet.
When they submitted their songs, I noticed that one of the Artistes didn't use the right words for the message he wanted to communicate. As I read the lyrics of his song, I was getting two different messages so I asked him what message he was passing across in the song, after he explained, I discovered that he chose the wrong words.
Here's the point, words mean different things in music, especially for gospel music. Even biblical expressions communicate different things in music. If you must create hit songs Intentionally, you must understand how this principle works.
For example, "I can do all things through Christ" is the same thing as "I can do nothing without Christ". Both expressions actually communicate the same idea but in music they mean different things entirely. This is because music is not about messages but words and what words do in music is not really to pass a message but to communicate emotions. So even though those expressions communicate the same ideas, but they ultimately communicate different EMOTIONS.
I can do all things through Christ communicates Strength and Confidence in God
I can do nothing without Christ communicates Vulnerability and Dependence on God
Both expressions communicate different EMOTIONS in songs.
Why is this very important, it is because when people listen to songs, they don't get messages from the songs, they only catch EMOTIONS. The message they think they got from your song is simply the emotion the song inspired in them and they respond to that Emotion. There are love songs that make you fall in love, and there are love songs that reminds you of the pain of love. Both are love songs but communicating different EMOTIONS because of the words or expressions used.
I was explaining what RUDE BOY did with his song "REASON WITH ME" to my secular Artiste client while teaching him this principle. The expression "Reason with me" is the same thing as "bear with me" or "endure with me" but when you listen to the entire idea that Rudeboy was communicating in that song, you would understand why he used that expression "Reason with me". Reason with me communicates "understanding" in the affirmative more like, give me sometime I will make things better, but endure or bear with me communicates understanding in the negative. It suggests suffering with no promise of better days. Are you still wondering why the song was an instant Hit? It communicates the right EMOTION. Some girls now can't leave their broke boyfriend because they are now scared he might just hammer after she left him. Lol.
When you want to create a hit, you must be sure what Emotion you want your message to inspire in your listeners and use the write words and expressions to drive it home. If you are communicating Dependence on God, it will be wrong for you to use expressions that communicate strength because that would mess up your message. Your choice of words is determined by the EMOTIONS you want your message to communicate.
If you don't understand how this works, you can never be able to create Hit Songs Intentionally. Now there are few bluggins that I will show you to help you master this principle if you sign up for my mentorship program..
