SCHOOL OF MUSIC - SONG REVIEW ESSENCE

SCHOOL OF MUSIC ::: SONG REVIEW ESSENCE.

Recently I have been privileged to review songs for a couple of Artistes. Then I observed a few things that I want to talk about.

First, I like to know, what's the idea behind sending or paying professionals to review your songs after recording, What is in your mind as the owner of the song? What do you hope to hear? Great song I guess? Lol. You want them to listen and tell you that this song is BLOWN in the realm of the spirit already? Hehehehehehe.

I sincerely question the intention behind you sending your already recorded songs for review if you truly want an honest feedback.

Some of you don't even have the luxury to effect any corrections after the song have been recorded. For some of you, your mind is already made up, you feel good with your song but you just need someone to boast your confidence more by telling you that the song is Dope. Lol.

Of course most times when the Artistes send song for review, they want to hear that the song will do well when it's released.

But here's what I believe any serious Artistes should do. Start the song review before you even go to the studio. Yes this is the right thing to do, and it will also save you a lot of stress trying to correct seemingly minor things after it has been recorded. Send the lyrics to your coach or anyone you know has a good knowledge of music content. Let them review the lyrics with you and also review the ryhthm or genre as the case maybe.

This is important because you could have words or expressions in your songs that will make you lose certain audience or words and expressions that are not scripturally sound. Just a word or expression wrongly used can destroy a song. For example, words that have negative connotation like SHAME, PAIN, SORRY etc. are used carefully in song expressions. Look at these two expressions: "YOU WILL NOT DIE IN YOUR PAIN" and "YOU WILL NOT DIE IN THE PAIN"

Both words actually communicates the same idea but not the same Emotion.  one is personalized and the other is generalized. Why is this important? It is because as a rule, You don't personalize Negative Emotions when writing songs. You personalize positive and good things. So instead of writing He took "your" SHAME or PAIN or SORRY away, say He took "the" SHAME or PAIN or SORRY away. This is where the real song review starts from.

If I see the lyrics of a song, I picture the sound, rhythm and genre in my head. Do you know that some songs can actually go on different beats and rhythm but only one rhythm can communicate the Emotions of the song best and blow the song. This is why your review should start way before you hit the studio if you truly want an honest, effective and result oriented review of your song. Not after you finished recording. The review after the song is out of the studio is supposed to check if the original design of the song as reviewed before going to the studio is achieved. All my students know this as a rule. I review their songs before they hit the studio for recording.

Happy song reviews. I am available for professional undiluted song reviews, DM let's discuss and work on your songs for a token fee.
