                         Chapter One
               How to create hit songs

Music is an art and just like every other arts, skill is most important. When it
comes to music, there are different skills required to make success easy. In
this chapter, I am talking about the skill of creating hit songs.

To many people, creating a hit song is rocket science. They feel it is a difficult thing to do. As a matter of fact, many people actually think that creating a hit song is a thing of luck or chance, but it shouldn't be so.
Creating hit songs is a skill and just like every other skills, it functions with knowledge. Every artiste needs the knowledge on how to create hit songs.

Creating hit songs should be Intentional. I always say that there's only one thing in the world that makes a song a hit and every hit song in this world has that one thing. To master the art or skill of creating hit songs, you need to find out the one thing that makes every song a hit and master its use. Unfortunately some artistes who eventually sang a hit by luck didn't know that somehow they were able to get that one thing into their song and that's why the song became a hit. They think it is
luck or what the gospel artistes would call grace.

THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES A SONG A HIT

The only thing in the world that makes a song a hit is called EMOTION.
Every song in the world that ever became a hit was able to reach people's emotion. Now take your time and think about the songs in the world you love and figure out why you love those songs. In the same way, think about
the songs that you do not like and why you don't like the song. Even though the song could have a very good message in it but still you don't like it. It is simple, the song could not get your emotion. Sometimes you notice that
your friends like a particular song but you don't like the song, the difference is that your friends are able to connect with the song emotionally but you can't connect yet.

Truth is that emotion is a powerful tool and anyone who understands it and masters its use can manipulate you into loving and doing what they want. Anything that gets your emotion has already gotten you. Think about the fact that you bought a movie, got home and inserted it into your DVD player, sat down to watch it and then you got touched by the
story and started crying. You knew very well it was just a film. You knew it wasn't real, you knew the actors have been paid huge money to play the roles, so why then were you crying for something you know it's not even real? They got to you emotionally.

EMOTIONS

This book is basically written for musicians, recording artistes, music
producers and artistes’ managers but let me say this to you that this
principle I am showing in this book, works beyond just music. It works in everything you do. Once you are able to appeal to people's emotion, you will get them to do your bidding. You will excel faster in whatever you do if you can connect with people emotionally.

Notice I said if you can CONNECT with people emotionally. It's about connecting. Unfortunately, for most people all we know about Emotion is faking cry or sounding pitiable, Nah! That's not what I am talking about. You can sound emotional and yet not connect with your Audience. Emotion in music is deeper than just singing from your nose forming cry and sounding like you are lost in spirit, Nah!. Emotion is felt only when it is communicated. Once you understand how to communicate Emotions, you can connect with any Audience you are targeting. Communication and Connection are two key words in the use of Emotion.

Later on I will show you how this
principle can help you create hit songs that will not need promotion to become a hit. If anything, maybe just a little push and you are good to go.
The power of emotion will make all the difference in your music career.
Check out all the popular artistes in the world you know and go back to listen to their hit songs, you get the picture clearer. They use emotions to blow.

EVERGREEN songs are just songs with strong emotional connection. What are evergreen songs? They are songs that every time you listen to them, it feel fresh to you even though it was released years back.
What happens is that every time you hear the songs, you are able to still connect with it emotionally that's why it feels fresh and new every time. So for you to create evergreen songs, you need to really master the use of
emotion in your music.
